Ah, shredded wheat, the librarian of the cereal world. Bring out her best feature – that oh so sexy crunch – by adorning her with seasonal nectarines, dried apricots, toasted pecans, coconut flakes, pomegranate, a sprinkling of sumac, and a drizzle of sweetener.
Btw – that dark, handsome stranger in the corner, it’s Beet, Blueberry, and Tarragon juice, part of my Drink Your…Veggies series.

- 1 nectarine, sliced

My guy says, “Shredded wheat? That’s not a recipe!” But a recipe is just instructions and ingredients. No dictionary, anywhere, says it has to be complicated. So there.
Sexed-Up Shredded Wheat was born after a midnight shopping excursion for cereal. Out of 100+ variations, only 2 were the sugar free kind I was looking for. I liked that Shredded Wheat had only 1 ingredient, but back at home in my bowl, it looked pretty sad and tasted equally so, sending me rummaging thru my kitchen for stuff to liven it up.
Since then, I’ve made many variations – this combo is my current fav but there’s lots of room for creativity. If you’re making your own variation go for some juicy seasonal fruit and throw in a complimentary/contrasting dried one. Add in something toasted, like nuts or coconut flakes, or both. Then garnish the whole thing with a sprinkle of dried spice such as cinnamon, ginger, cardamon, sumac, etc. – whatever you think will work. It’s a good vehicle for experimentation cause there is not really much at stake when you’re making yourself a bowl of cereal! Let me know how it works for you!
