Brown Butter Barbecue Sauce

Sweet and mustardy with a smooth brown butter finish, this easy homemade barbecue sauce works with brats, sausages, burgers or meatloaf. One of the featured sauces on our Beyond Meat Grazing Platter, you can make it vegetarian using brown butter or use our vegan brown butter for a plant-based version. Once you’ve made your brown butter (either version takes about 20 minutes), just pop all the ingredients in the blender and you’re done.

Making Brown Butter Barbecue Sauce

Once you have made your brown butter (vegan version, regular version), you can just add all of the ingredients to a blender and blend until well-combined.

Brown Butter Barbecue Sauce is a great way to unite a meal for mixed groups. Make it vegan if you have some plant-based eaters at the table. Then serve it on the side for everyone to enjoy as a condiment with their choice of plant or animal-based burgers, sausages, or meatloaf.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard

For vegetarian version

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

Store in a tightly-sealed container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
